Worldwide Microsoft Exchange Zero-Day Cyberattacks
During this month, many businesses worldwide have experienced one of the largest security breaches in history via four zero-day vulnerabilities in Microsoft Exchange on-premise servers. This event has only affected those clients with Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, Exchange Server 2016, and Exchange Server 2019, and there is no need to do anything unless you have been contacted by our team already.
At Alliance Business Technologies we are continually working to improve and adjust our own security posture and those of our valued clients, with a dedicated security team.
What did we do to mitigate the Exchange vulnerability?
- Within hours of the announcement from Australia Cyber Security centre last week, our dedicated security team patched all vulnerable servers.
- Our team then worked throughout the week to monitor and takes step to remediate high risk servers.
- Continued with our deployment of the latest world-leading Antivirus technology, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, to all our client servers.
A big thank you to our technical team for the hard work they have done to limit the impact on those few affected clients, and also to our clients who have listened to our recommendations on security and compliance, choosing to modernise their IT infrastructure and move to Microsoft 365. Fewer than 5 % of our clients were affected, and already half of them had agreed to move forward with IT upgrades to reduce their risk.
A reminder to all clients that the number one most important step any business can take is to implement Multifactor Authentication (MFA).
